Class Experience

In this class, you will learn the names of the ukulele strings and four basic ukulele chords (C, C7, F, and G). In addition, you will learn and practice two simple ways to strum. It will help if students have taken the Introduction to Ukulele Class or already have knowledge about the ukulele string names and parts of the ukulele. During class, you will play your first, easy, one-chord songs like, "Row, Row, Row Your Boat", The Farmer in the Dell", and “Are You Sleeping?. If time allows, we will look at some two-chord songs and three-chord songs for students to take away and practice at their own pace at home. For class, you will need a ukulele that is already tuned. If you have never played before, you can join this class to get the basics that will help you be well on your way to playing simple songs. I also suggest that you sign up for my Introduction to Ukulele Class that will help build a foundation before Class 1. In Class 1, I will model each chord and give students opportunity to practice each one before we move into using the chords to play a song/songs together. Each class session has different learner needs. I may speed up or slow down, depending on the progress of the learners in each class. After this class, there are four other classes that I teach to help students increase their skills with new chords and songs to practice. Every student learns at a different pace. Class size will determine individual attention to needs. It is also important for cameras to be positioned so that I can see student hands and ukuleles for better assistance. Some younger students may not have complete development of their fine motor skills and may find that manipulating chords with their fingers is difficult. Since every child is different and unique, you as the parent can determine if you think they are ready based on their motor skills development. If you wish for your child to get more on on one attention through a private lesson, please message me, and I would be happy to accommodate.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their understanding of playing the ukulele using four, basic, easy-to-play chords. Students will also learn simple strumming patterns as well as be able to play a song using what they have learned.

Hello, Everyone!

My name is Mrs. Engelbrecht (Eng-el-brekt), or you can call me Mrs. E or Becca. I really enjoy my job - teaching children to love reading, writing, and the arts through fun and imagination.

I am certified in all subject areas in Florida, USA (grades 1-6), but my favorite areas to teach are reading, writing, and the arts. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Florida State University and a Master's Degree in Publishing from Napier University in Scotland, UK.

In my classes, I seek to help everyone feel important in their unique skills. Communication and appreciation in sharing our uniqueness with each other are important. Every child can read, write, and be artistic in their own unique way.

A little bit about me: I have taught elementary school for 20 years. I taught preschool for one year in Edinburgh, Scotland where I lived for four years and met my South African husband who was serving in the Royal Scots Army. I have two sons, aged 15 and 11. I have self-published 6 children's books. I have been singing and playing music with various instruments since I was 4 years old. In my free time, I enjoy singing; playing my ukulele; writing songs, poetry, and books; drawing; watercolor painting; and going on camping adventures with my family.
