Students will meet once a week with the teacher on zoom, where they will review the previous weeks content, learn a new concept, chord, strum (rhythm), and/or song and practice with the aid of the teacher and peers. Students will be able to ask questions during the live session as well as online during the week. Students homework will be to practice the concepts so that they are proficient before the next week's lessons. They will log their time practicing and have a weekly worksheet covering ukulele basics or simple music literacy concepts learned in class. The speed of each class will vary depending on the learners. A general outline is listed below: Lesson 1: Tuning, String Letter Names, Finger Numbers, How the Ukulele works, Chord F. Ukulele history, comparison to other string instruments, basic rhythms, basic strumming patterns, Chord C (maybe G) Lesson 2: Addition of new strumming techniques, chords G, G7, Am Lesson 3: Introduction of 4-chord songs, introduction of song resources and learning resources, continue strumming patterns Lesson 4: work on 4-chord songs, continue strumming patterns, learn how to read new chords and implement them into songs Lesson 5: Perform 4-chord songs, perform strumming patterns, Introduce next step concepts
Learning Goals
Ukulele specific topics will include tuning, how the ukulele works, string letter names, reading finger numbers, the four beginner chords (C, G7, F, Am). Students will be introduced to basic music literacy including rhythms, music note letter names, and reading off of a lead chart.

Ukulele Handouts and worksheets will be provided through the Outschool Classroom.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
I have been a music teacher since 2012 when I graduated from Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford and received my K-12 teaching license in Connecticut. Since 2012 I have spent time teaching PreK-8th grade general music and chorus, including music literacy, music history, movement, and ukulele. After completing my second degree, a Master’s in Music Education from Boston University, I decided to start my own private music teaching studio in Santa Monica, CA.
