Description
Class Experience
In this week long camp, students will learn the basics of ukelele including: strum pattern, chords, hand placement, and parts of the ukelele. Through these learning goals, students will explore and learn new songs. The skills learned in this camp can transfer to learning many beginner ukelele songs and set your student up for further success and fun on their new instrument. Each session, we will learn a new song and find ways to transfer the knowledge from one song to others. Students will...
Students will learn basics of music including literacy and theory. Students will use their basic skills as scaffolding for further skills as they progress on the instrument. Students will be working daily on finger dexterity, strumming, and chord identification. These skills will help with student gross and fine motor skills, as well as giving them a fun challenge for their brain during the summer.
I have studied music my whole life and taught for 5 years. I have experience teaching students in choir, band, orchestra, rock ensemble, piano, voice, and ukelele. I love seeing students explore their passions for music and giving them the tools they need to make musical discoveries.
Students will have songs they will need to practice between lessons to help ensure that we aren't starting from scratch each day of the ukelele camp. Students will enjoy playing and want to continue their practice. Students should expect to practice for at least 10 minutes a day outside of the camp times.
Students will need a ukelele, there are many great options for beginners online, depending on your students needs. Generally, beginner ukeleles range within $20-$40.
Students will be assessed informally by demonstrating their skills through discussion and playing. Student assessment is constant in this course and will be embedded into the curriculum.
2 hours 45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
