Welcome to Uke Fun 101: Group Ukulele Classes for Beginners, a group Ukulele class for ages eight to thirteen focusing on learning the basics of strumming and chords through an array of fun songs and melodies! By the end of this course students will understand the four basic chords that are used in many songs, simple strumming patterns and melodies, and be able to play along on the ukulele with our study songs! - Class one, learners will learn the string names and numbers, what a fret...
This class is taught in English.
Students will learn the basics of Ukulele including how to hold the instrument, string names, string numbers, what a fret is, how to understand tablature, basic chords and strumming patterns, how to count and play along with a play along song, rhythm, and appropriate finger positioning. Songs may include: "Somewhere Over the Rainbow", "Stand By Me," "I'm Yours," "Best Day of My Life," "Count On Me," "Happier," "Hey Ho", and many more! Melodies may include: "Star Wars Theme", "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star", "The Ants Go Marching In", "Animal Crossings Theme", and more!
As the 2020 Lessonface.com Teacher of the Year, I enjoy teaching students of all ages, skill levels, and backgrounds. I have specialized in teaching ukulele, classical guitar, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, piano, banjo, voice, music theory, and songwriting for the past ten years, and celebrate and honor every students unique, individual, learning style and interests, while keeping lessons fun, relaxed, and engaging. I create original and exciting lesson plans that contour to individual learning styles and needs, while providing a creative, compassionate, caring, learning environment and a solid foundation in technique, theory, ear-training, and musical fundamentals. I foster a safe, inclusive, diverse, learning space where learners can feel supported, while respecting the customs, traditions, values, and perspectives of people of different races, ethnicities, genders, sexual orientations, religions, abilities, socioeconomic statuses, and ages. As a graduate of the prestigious Berklee College of Music (Cum Laude), and as a guitar principle with a B.A. in Songwriting, I play and teach rock, jazz, blues, classical, pop, folk, bluegrass and other traditional music genres. Besides teaching professionally, as a nationally touring recording artist, singer-songwriter, guitarist, pianist, and multi-instrumentalist, I have performed at venues such as: Salem Arts Festival, RISD, Cornell University, Hampshire College, Colgate University, The Multicultural Theater Space in Kitchener Ontario as well as numerous colleges, festivals, fairs, and coffeehouses around the US.
Practicing the class material throughout the week is recommended. Learners should aim for practicing ten minutes a day, five days a week.
Please bring a ukulele and a tuner (if one is available) to class. If a tuner is not available, there are apps and online pages that can help with tuning. Please feel free to message me about tuning prior to class and I will be happy to help.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
