In this 6 lesson introduction to keyboarding class, students will learn touch keyboarding using correct keying techniques including correct posture and finger placement. The student will improve speed and accuracy in keyboarding.
Technology has improved our lives in many ways. Students began using technology at a young age, unfortunately bad keyboarding habits develop during those times. It is crucial that students learn to type the correct way early, to avoid repeating bad keyboarding habits. It takes a lot of practice to learn to type. Everyone learns to type at their own unique pace and speed. Not all students will be on the exact same lesson during class. This is live class but it is individual student paced class.
Students will:
Demonstrate the use of proper keyboarding techniques using touch keyboarding
Learn the alphabet keys on a standard QWERTY keyboard
Lesson 1️⃣ - Getting Started - Middle Row
In this lesson students will be using the finger reach method, introduce index and middle finger letter keys, Space Bar, and proper posture

NOTE TO PARENTS: This is an interactive classroom, with guidance from teacher. Students will have the opportunity to interact, socialize while learning the correct form of typing, increase accuracy and speed. Students will may need help to login in with their username and password prior to class. Each student will receive a pdf file on how to set up their devices for our class. Please make sure you check your emails from Outschool.
Our Goal is to get through all the letters of the alphabet in this beginner level. All students learn at their level of comfort and pace. Accuracy is most important at this level. Once the students have complete all of the beginner level, they can advance to the next class Level 2 Intermediate level, however it is possible that your learner will need to take another beginner section of this class to complete all of Level 1.
Please note the minimum number of students required for this course. If the minimum number of students has not been reached, students may be transferred or refunded. Parents / Students will receive a message. Please check your email for Outschool messages, this includes Inbox, promotions, and spam folders.
Teacher will wait in the classroom for 10 minutes on students to arrive.

Parental Guidance
Students at this young age very often need adult assistance using a computer/keyboard. This class using edutyping.com school site licenses, each student will receive a unique unidentifiable username and password prior to class, that only has meaning to the teacher and parent / student.
PDF instructions will be sent to parents after enrolling explaining how to set up devices for the learner.

🍎 Mrs. Lauren - I'm a K-8 certified teacher in the state of Michigan and have been a teacher since 2011. I have a Masters degree in Teaching and Curriculum with an Educational Technology concentration and a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. Both degrees are from Michigan State University. I'm also a Google Certified Educator, both Levels 1 and 2.
I taught K-8 Computer and PreK-5 Library classes at a private school in southeast Michigan from 2016-2021. In my teaching career, I also have experience in middle school Math and English Language Arts, along with the general elementary classroom. On Outschool, I have taught various technology classes since summer 2020, including typing/keyboarding, Google Slides design, and coding.
