Learn to type the correct way! - Help to improve your typing skills for essays, lessons, stories, assignments, coding and more. In this Eight Week lesson introduction to keyboarding, students will explore the computer keyboard and learn touch typing—typing without looking at the keys. This course will build a solid foundation of correct typing techniques of the Home Row Keys, covering all letter keys, and utilizing all ten fingers. Our goal is to introduce proper techniques and guide learners through practice sessions to build muscle memory for efficient typing. L E A R N T O T O U C H T Y P E W I T H P R O P E R T E C H N I Q U E S Students will start building a STRONG foundation of the home row keys and progressively move to the middle and top row keys. Emphasis will be on proper finger placement, posture, and technique to develop efficient typing habits. Engaging in various practice exercises, students will reinforce their skills and improve speed and accuracy. By the end of this course, students will have a strong foundation in touch typing. C O U R S E O U T L I N E Laying the Foundation: Learn the correct finger positions and movements for each key. Correcting Mistakes: Understand the importance of accuracy and learn to recognize and correct typing errors. Strengthening Muscle Memory: Through repetition, consolidate correct typing techniques into muscle memory for effortless typing. Our goal is for learners to progress through all the letters of the alphabet by the end of this course. Each student learns at their own pace, with accuracy being the primary focus. C O U R S E F E A T U R E S ◾ Curriculum: We use the EduTyping website and follow their beginner typing curriculum and practice exercises. ◾ Interactive Learning: The course includes short lectures, demonstrations, and individual practice sessions. ◾ Brain Breaks: Students will have 1 to 2-minute breaks every 7-10 minutes to stretch, ask questions, and reinforce their skills. W H O S H O U L D T A K E T H I S C L A S S? ◾ Students with little to no keyboard experience who want to learn the basics. ◾ Students with some keyboard experience looking to improve their skills. ◾ Students interested in learning to code but lacking keyboarding skills. T E C H N O L O G Y R E Q U I R E M E N T S ◾ A laptop or desktop computer is required (no tablets without external keyboard). R E Q U I R E D R E A D I N G, W R I T I N G A N D C O M P U T E R S K I L L S: ◾ Recognize all 26 letters of the English alphabet (both lowercase and uppercase). ◾ Understand basic sentence structure (uppercase letter start, spaces between words, punctuation at the end). ◾ Note: Fluency in reading is not required. Students will copy letters and words from provided exercises. N O T E T O P A R E N T S: The teacher will create an account for each student. Username and passwords will be sent to parents the day before class begins. Students may need assistance logging into their EduTyping account. Instructions for setting up learner devices will be available upon enrollment. 📌 Camera Policy: To ensure proper typing technique and provide accurate feedback, cameras must remain on for the duration of class. This allows me to observe hand positioning, posture, and key usage to support your progress. If accommodations are needed, please contact me before class. Teacher will wait for 10 minutes in the classroom for students to join.
