C O U R S E D E T A I L S This Orton-Gillingham Method of multi-sensory adaptive self-paced typing course for students with Dysgraphia, Dyspraxia, ADD/ADHD, and Autism teaches typing skills while thoroughly reinforcing phonics to improve their reading and spelling skills. The course emphasizes the importance of mastering typing for students with these conditions due to the increased amount of writing assignments they are required to complete. The approach to touch typing emphasizes proper techniques and ergonomics, accuracy to create muscle motor learning, and eventually speed. The course starts with students learning to touch-type, read and spell the vowels - a , e , i , o , u. The audio track accompanies the letters as they appear on screen, reinforcing sound-letter correspondence, which is a crucial skill for sounding out words in reading. The student then receives their first score - and success! Our approach to touch typing / keyboarding is: First students must learn the proper techniques & ergonomics of typing, next we emphasize accuracy to create the muscle motor learning and last is speed. All students want to type fast, however the speed will develop as we learning the proper techniques and create muscle memory. 1st Week of the each Month - Importance of proper keyboarding techniques ◾ Finger Positioning ◾ Posture ◾ Keystrokes ◾ Individualized Learner Level specific 2nd Week of each Month - Importance of proper keyboarding techniques ◾ Finger Positioning ◾ Posture ◾ Keystrokes ◾ Individualized Learner Level specific 3rd Week of the each Month - Importance of proper keyboarding techniques ◾ Finger Positioning ◾ Posture ◾ Keystrokes ◾ Individualized Learner Level specific 4th Week of each Month - Importance of proper keyboarding techniques ◾ Finger Positioning ◾ Posture ◾ Keystrokes ◾ Individualized Learner Level specific I N D I V I D U A L I Z E D L E A R N E R L E S S O N S Lesson 1 - Keyboarding Techniques / Home Row Keys Lesson 2 - Keyboarding Techniques / Right Hand Keys Lesson 3 - Keyboarding Techniques / Left Hand Keys Lesson 4 - Vowels - Keys a, e, i, o, u Lesson 5 - Constants + e - Word Families - keys ( f, d, r) Lesson 6 - Constants + i - Word Families - keys ( l, w, k, h) Lesson 7 - Constants + a - Word Families - keys ( s, m, j, d) Lesson 8 - Constants + o - Word Families - keys ( s, m t, r, l, w, f) Lesson 9 - Constants + u - Word Families - keys ( c, b, p, g) Lesson 10 - Constants + o + Constant - keys ( x, k v,z ) Lesson 11 - Practice typing sentences Lesson 12 - Constants + e + Constant +y - Word Families - keys ( y ) Lesson 13 - CVC Words Lesson 14 - Words with nd, nt, dr, gr, gl, fl, sl, cl, sp C O U R S E S T R U C T U R E L E V E L S Levels: 24 levels, structured in groups of five modules (four with new words and the fifth as a dictation module).
