Welcome to an open network for writers...ALL writers with different interests, genres and levels are welcome. Writers that are just beginning to explore or have seasoned stories they'd like to expand, this class is for everyone. Each class will delve into elements of writing, but also be a positive venue that is wide open for sharing, discussing and exploring new ideas and topics. Classes will run for 55 minutes weekly. Sessions will include a brief introduction to the elements of writing and then open into a sharing / discussion time where students can talk freely, get help on their specific story, request feedback from peers and the instructor, or simply work on their story freely. This is a small group tutoring-like session and all classes will be based specifically on enrolled learner's needs. Weekly session topics will be posted in the classroom 1 week previous to the upcoming week. Elements of writing introduced will be decided on based on student needs. Some example areas include: Characters (Creating & Development) Plot / Setting Development Writing Dialogue Point of View / Voice / Tone Conflicts / Protagonist / Antagonist Style & Theme Development Instruction will include light lecture, open discussion, concept reinforcement through videos and example works. There is no background knowledge necessary, and all levels of writing are welcome. Writers will get a chance to work directly with the teacher to go over their stories, ask questions and get feedback on areas that they want to expand. This is a safe and positive work space.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Minnesota Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
Hello Outschool Families!
I am excited to be teaching on the Outschool platform, as I have 20+ years of experience in the homeschool community. I have structured, managed and taught in homeschools with large and small groups, taught in homes privately and have integrated with other teachers to provide on-site and project-based homeschool learning.
The belief that drives me in teaching is that it is my job to teach to the student. I am a strong believer in using multiple teaching styles, creating unique approaches and teaching lessons that are interesting, unique and applicable to each student I encounter in my classrooms.
I have worked with learners from kindergarten to adulthood, all which had varying abilities and learning styles. To develop curriculum that fits the student, or gives a learner a chance to see topics in a new light, is always my goal. I love introducing all my students to new perspectives!
I hold a B.A. degree in Elementary Education and Diagnostic Reading Education from the University of Northern Iowa. I currently live in Minnesota with my husband and two daughters. We strive to stay warm, but still enjoy the beauty of the Minnesota in all its frozen glory.
I look forward to meeting all of you!
