Welcome to the rainforest! Have you ever wanted to dig into the layers of the rainforest and find out facts about the plants and animals that live there? Are you also interested in creating a drawing while learning science? Then this class is for you! In Twisted Science: Draw While Learning About the Tropical Rainforest, learners will learn about one layer of the rainforest each day. Day 1: Emergent Layer ~ Learn what the emergent layer of the rainforest is ~ Listen to short lectures about...
Learners will know the 4 layers of the rainforest and will be able to name plants and animals that live in each of these layers.
I specialize in finding fun twists to standard curriculum to help my students build critical thinking skills as well as science skills. By adding a new twist to a familiar topic we can expand our thinking to include new possibilities. I have taught science to homeschool students for the last 15 years and during that time I have developed many teaching techniques and hands-on projects to help students explore concepts in new and exciting ways
Learners may want to add details to their drawings between classes, but will not be required to do so.
Large piece of paper to draw on (preferably poster paper, but you could also tape together multiple sheets of 8.5 x 11 inch paper), pencil with eraser, something to color with, and a ruler.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
I will discuss concepts with learners each day and I will give an oral assessment of the accuracy of drawing the different layers (note: this will not be an assessment based on artistic value but rather on putting plants and animals in the correct areas in the rainforest).
4 hours 10 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
