Twisted Planet: Analyze the Environmental Impact of Protein Food Sources
Class experience
US Grade 2 - 5
Let's celebrate Earth Day by learning about the environmental impact of our food choices. In this class you will learn about different resources needed to create some of our foods so you can better understand the impact on the environment our choices may have. In this class you will do the following: ~ Watch a slideshow and listen as I explain the resources needed for our food ~ Interpret different types of graphs and analyze what the information tells us ~ Draw 4 diagrams to show the...
Understand that large amounts of resources go into producing our foods.
I specialize in finding fun twists to standard curriculum to help my students build critical thinking skills as well as scientific skills. By adding a new twist to a familiar topic we can expand our thinking to include new possibilities. I have taught science to homeschool students for the last 15 years and during that time I have developed many teaching techniques and hands-on projects to help students explore concepts in new and exciting ways. Every year I enjoy finding and creating fun and thought-provoking activities to practice in April for Earth Week. I'm happy to have the opportunity to bring this option to Outschool.
4 blank papers, a pencil, and 3 colors (preferably green, orange, and blue, but any colors will work)
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
This class is not designed to be for or against eating animal protein, it's just here to give facts about the resources that are needed to create our food. If I am asked, though, I will tell students that I do eat meat, and that I use the information I present to make food choices. Students will help guide the discussion portion of the class.
