In this class each student will create a unique drawing of the rainforest while practicing math problems regarding the plants and animals in their pictures. For each plant or animal we draw I will provide background information about what it is, give some tips on how to draw it, and then give students time to create their unique take on the item. With each new thing we draw there will be a mathematical element students need to solve. Some...
The goal of this class is to review basic math skills students need for second and third grades.
I specialize in finding fun twists to standard curriculum to help my students build critical thinking skills as well as mathematical skills. By adding a new twist to a familiar topic we can expand our thinking to include new possibilities. I have taught math to homeschool students for the last 15 years and during that time I have developed many teaching techniques and hands-on projects to help students explore concepts in new and exciting ways.
Large piece of paper to draw on (preferably 11x18, but you could also tape together multiple sheets of printer paper), pencil with eraser, something to color with, a ruler that measures inches, a printout I will supply before the first day of class.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
I will have students help me solve problems together and correct where needed.
50 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
