While in this summer camp, students will not be learning 'normal' text book information. Rather, the content will be about exciting, clever happenings that were pulled off to put the world on high alert for scams and scammers of all kinds...yet innovation reigns supreme and tricksters continue to surprise us all. This course will include videos, class discussions, lecture, and some charting of crimes for future discussion and reference. Weekly content will include: Day 1: The Game Show...
Learners will hear about the crime details, including places and times, 'alleged' involvement, police reports, details about how they almost got away with it and how the suspects were eventually caught. Students will be asked to fill in a compare / contrast chart that outlines types of crimes, details and opinions of the student in regard to what was discussed during class. Students will be asked to voluntarily participate in research of various topics to present to the class at the next session. Class discussions, lecture, participation, and note-taking will be the main formats used in presenting material.
I specialize in finding fun twists to standard curriculum. This helps my students build critical thinking skills, as well as gain knowledge about historical events. In this course I will be discussing crimes in a kid-friendly format. I will not be addressing violent acts that include harming people or resulting in murder or death directly. By delving deep into unusual human activity we can expand our thinking to recognize other perspectives and expand our thinking.
4 hours 35 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
