In this one-time course, students will be introduced to animals who were used throughout human history to help with war efforts.
Class experience
Animals are a part of everyday life, but let's take a look at their contributions to war efforts throughout World War II. This class will provide a brief overview of the reasons why certain animals were used, how they were used, special skills and tactics taught to an array of animals to be able to serve their masters in the most successful ways. My experience in teaching is wide-range, and I have taught many hours and classes that involve WWII. I always focus on the overall end results and how those have changed our world for the better. Animals in war will be no exception, and the expertise I hold in guiding discussions and valuing different perspectives will keep this a safe and positive learning environment.
The topic of 'Animals in War' may be sensitive given the background content. I will be presenting the direct contributions of specifics groups; however, I will not dwell on death, sadness or share specific stories that include the animal perishing. It may be an easy link for some learners to recognize since the overall picture includes times and trials of war in human history, and if this perspective is brought up I will guide the conversation back to the broader scope of the contributions of animals overall.
