Class Experience

US Grade 9 - 12
Intermediate Level
Topics covered will be review and further explanation of concepts in the math or physics classes that the student needs help in. Topics can be: prealgebra, algebra I, algebra II, geometry, precalculus, trigonometry, calculus, AP calculus, physics mechanics and AP physics mechanics. I teach by first gauging the students understanding of a concept and then use drawings to help teach the concept. Practice problems are usually done to ensure understanding. These are worked together until the student is confident and can work them independently.

Students should be prepared and send ahead of time topics, notes and problems they want to work on ahead of time for a productive session.
Learning Goals
To form an understanding of the math or physics concepts the student is struggling with. The student should be able to successfully work problems on the topic on their own, or even explain a concept.

Master's Degree from Texas A&M University
I love teaching about math and physics. I have a degree in engineering, but I have always enjoyed math and tutoring. I tutored math and physics in college and I am getting back into it after working as a Professional Engineer and then raising kids for a bit.

I have a few mindsets I approach teaching and tutoring with. The first is that everyone starts somewhere. Students struggle in different areas, and even with different topics of math, while they may excel in others. I always encourage my students that they can learn hard subjects and that we can work together to make them make sense. I also like to get to know a students learning style and teach based on their individual style. I can teach concepts from different perspectives to help a student understand well. I like to ask leading questions and guide a student through problem solving until they are comfortable working problems independently.

Even though this is Outschool, I firmly believe the best path to mastery of math and physics is two-fold: understanding the physical or visual concept, as well as practice. Practice will mean working and solving problems.

Some of my hobbies are kayaking, fishing, reading and gardening. I have two daughters and two kitties.
