Class Experience
US Grade 9 - 12
Intermediate Level
This is a one on one Algebra 2 tutoring class. Topics covered will be Algebra 2 topics such as graphing, factoring, and solving functions. These functions include: linear, absolute value, quadratic, square root, exponential, logarithmic, rational, radical, and power and inverse. I teach a concept in several different ways, drawing when I can to explain the topic. Then practice problems are worked alongside the student, with me asking questions as we work to build the students confidence.
Learning Goals
To master concepts of Algebra 2, prepare for the next level of math and improve grades.
Other Details

Teacher expertise and credentials
Master's Degree from Texas A&M University
I love teaching about math and physics. I have a degree in engineering, but I have always enjoyed math and tutoring. I tutored math and physics in college and I am getting back into it after working as a Professional Engineer and then raising kids for a bit.
I have a few mindsets I approach teaching and tutoring with. The first is that everyone starts somewhere. Students struggle in different areas, and even with different topics of math, while they may excel in others. I always encourage my students that they can learn hard subjects and that we can work together to make them make sense. I also like to get to know a students learning style and teach based on their individual style. I can teach concepts from different perspectives to help a student understand well. I like to ask leading questions and guide a student through problem solving until they are comfortable working problems independently.
Even though this is Outschool, I firmly believe the best path to mastery of math and physics is two-fold: understanding the physical or visual concept, as well as practice. Practice will mean working and solving problems.
Some of my hobbies are kayaking, fishing, reading and gardening. I have two daughters and two kitties.
