In this dystopian retelling of the classic fairy tale, Cinder finds herself at the heart of an intergalactic struggle, where forbidden attraction and political intrigue collide. Throughout our book club sessions, we'll delve into the thematic layers of duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal that shape Cinder's journey. As she grapples with uncovering the secrets of her past, Cinder must make choices that will not only define her own fate but also influence the future of her world. Parents: Please be aware that the student must have a copy of the book, Cinder (by Marissa Meyer), in order to participate and the student should read chapters 1 - 8 before the first class meets.
Learning Goals
Learners will compare the use of symbolism in Cinder with the traditional Cinderella story, examining how it supports the themes of the novel.
Learners will evaluate the moral choices characters face, such as Dr. Erland’s testing on cyborgs and Cinder’s decision to prioritize her family over others when seeking a cure.
