Parents are encouraged to review the parental guidance provided by https://www.commonsensemedia.org/book-reviews/the-fellowship-of-the-ring as paraphrased below. Because of the below, we will be sticking to the age limitations outlined in the class description. Parents need to know that if kids are ready to see the excellent Lord of the Rings movies then they're ready to read the trilogy, starting with The Fellowship of the Ring -- though arguably scenes fighting orcs and worse in the mines of Moria and ones with the undead dark riders pursuing the hobbits can seem extra troubling. One character almost dies and one is mourned; there's some fighting with swords and bows, but giant battle scenes are saved for the next two books. The hobbits and men like to smoke their pipe-weed (gross and covered in the first class for appropriateness) and drink wine and beer (discussed as age appropriate for the time period the book is set in). They also sing long ballads, sometimes in the author's made-up languages -- Tolkien's Middle Earth is just that fully imagined.
Parents: Please be aware that the student must have a copy of the book, Fellowship of the Ring by JRR Tolkien, in order to participate and the student should read Chapters 1 - 5 before the first class meets.

About Me
I believe that teaching can be useful but only if it is also fun- boring classes are not allowed and there is nothing worse than being bored (this is why I heavily encourage interaction in e-learning)! Expect to enjoy classes about Harry Potter,...
