Learning topics for this class include: strength, flexibility, gross motor skills, locomotion, coordination/balance, creative movement, introduction to tumbling, introduction to rhythmic gymnastics, gymnastics shapes, gymnastics terminology, body movements such as cross-body & head-tail movements, and social interaction Learning goals for this class include: improved spatial and body awareness, increased strength & flexibility, familiarity with gymnastics shapes and terms, mastery of beginner tumbling skills, creating a supportive community, improved confidence, physical fitness, and strengthened gross motor skills
I am a certified childhood educator with a background in dance and movement. I have a bachelor’s degree from The University of North Carolina where I studied history as well as education and modern/contemporary dance. I have experience teaching dance, ballet, gymnastics, and movement with the YMCA of WNC and Asheville Community Movement Gymnastics Center. No Homework will be assigned for this class.
Gymnasts will require enough space to move comfortably, clothes they can move in, and a 3'-4' line on the ground to use for balance beam practice. Tape is a great way to create a removable beam in any space. Please have enough space for your learner to move comfortably, and dress in moveable attire. Bare feet are preferred for this class. No socked feet. Gymnastics equipment and attire is not required for this class. Water breaks will be given throughout each class. Please have a beverage nearby to keep gymnastics hydrated.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Assessment will be provided upon parent request.
30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Parental guidance is not required for this class; however, parents should be advised that physical activities such as dance can cause injury. Please make sure students have appropriate space and attire to ensure safety during class instruction. Younger learners may need help navigating the ZOOM platform. Please familiarize your learner with the mute/ unmute feature if you are unable to assist them during class time.
