WHO SHOULD BE IN THIS CLASS? - PLEASE GET AN ASSESSMENT IN LEVEL A0/A1 BEFORE ENROLLING IN THIS CLASS - student should be able to have conversations fairly easily in Spanish about a variety of topics in 3 to 4 verb tenses - a student who has been in conversation classes 350 or more hours/or a Spanish class - a student who speaks Spanish in the home 30% of the day or who hears Spanish, understands 40% and wants to practice speaking more. ASSESSMENT FIRST CLASS If it is your first class, we will do a quick assessment to ensure your child is in the correct level. If your child is in the correct level class, we will not reach out. We will only reach out if we suggest the child change to another level class. If it is not your first class, we will do a progress speaking assessment every month to see your child's progress. WHAT IS THIS CLASS LIKE? Focusing on everyday words used in Spanish, whether you've already learned the words in school, or the words are new to you, get the chance to practice using them in casual conversation club. Listening comprehension and confidence SPEAKING from class one - in every class a new theme will be discussed - always interesting. Each theme will use a short video about teens traveling in Mexico, an article on a current event, pop culture, something interesting for teens and/or the kids choice of topic. We will base our conversation on real life conversation flow. Students should be patient and open-minded to allow themselves to get fluent over time - it takes time with the language, and that is what this class TRULY gives: TRU FLUENCY for KIDS. HOW WILL I KNOW IF MY CHILD SHOULD MOVE TO NEXT LEVEL? We will reach out to you to let you know when your child is ready for the next level. Usually this is 150 - 200 hours according to the CEFR (Common European Framework Reference). All of our teachers are from Mexico, but this framework is universal across all countries and languages for measuring language acquisition progress. HOMEWORK? Homework is not given, since conversation is what truly moves the needle towards fluency. The kids can watch TV in Spanish or learn Spanish songs to help them, but 'busy work' is not our style, since grammar drills do not help with fluency. ss our last birthday party - what did we get, who gave it to us, how did we like it, did we actually use it, wear it, etc. Every class will have a spontaneous conversation time about anything happening : exciting news, a change, the news, a new TV show, etc.
Learning Goals
Student will improve vocabulary, overall fluency, confidence understanding spoken Spanish that is used on an everyday basis for life and or school, get encouraged to respond confidently, and practice to use the language so that they can in turn take that into the real world. Very relevant lessons for REAL language usage.
