In this class, students will learn about the history of the trombone as well as how to read notes, what it sounds like and lastly, create their own melody! We will listen to many examples of what a trombone sounds like and provide descriptions on the emotions it provokes and why it is such an awesome instrument! Key topics we will discuss in our one time lesson! Topic #1: Student(s) will learn about the Trombone/Parts of the Trombone (labeling parts of the trombone assignment) [PDF will be sent to the students prior before class meeting and will need to be printed out] Topic #2: What does a Trombone sound like (listening assignment/classroom discussion) [Listening examples will be played with a short description in classroom] Topic #3: How to read notes and what positions they are (labeling position worksheet) [PDF will be sent out to students prior to class meeting and will need to be printed out] Topic #4: Create your own melody, write down what positions the notes would be (blank staff paper will be given that student will have to print out, write on, and send back; students will then receive their melody back after their lesson for them to listen to) No background knowledge is required, there are no instrument requirements. This is a class for anyone wanting to learn the basics of trombone and wanting to create their own melody! It is recommended that students listen with a good pair of headphones and take notes down with paper and a pencil! PDFs will be provided to complete at home after the lesson. The student will be responsible to print and scan completed worksheets to send back for immediate evaluation. Comments will be sent back. This will be a fun and interactive course that will teach students the basics of trombone, no instrument is required!

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have been playing trombone for 12 years so far and it is my primary instrument. The Trombone is such a fun and exciting instrument because it is the only instrument that has a slide! I am offering this class because it is often missed during the introductory courses of music education.
