Class Experience

Instruction Method: Students will learn through an interactive call and response discussion. The same will be true of playing the instrument during the class. Sometimes the entire class will play and other times the teacher will call on individual students to play for the class.
Time Structure: class sessions are 50 minutes each, 1) review; 2) new concepts; 3) practical application on the instrument; 4) lesson wrap-up; 5) assignment for the next session.
Topics: 1) What defines a good tone quality; 2) What positively and negatively influences tone quality; 3) How to develop good tone quality; 4) How to maintain good tone quality while learning other skills.

Learning Goals

Students will learn to identify what is and is not a good tone quality, what influences tone quality (positively and negatively), the skills necessary to develop the ideal tone quality, and then how to maintain good tone while learning new skills.
