Class Experience

US Grade 5 - 8
Intermediate - Advanced Level
In this English course, students will be grouped together to explore a fantasy world filled with monsters, treasures, and brand new vocabulary terms! The class is designed to be played like an RPG (role playing game), where characters level up and use skills in order to complete campaigns and defeat enemies. There are several courses in this series, so students can expect to visit new locations with every class to improve their reading, vocabulary, and speaking skills with one another.

Due to the amount of reading, speaking, and English comprehension for this class, students should be at an Intermediate (B1), Upper Intermediate (B2), or Advanced (C1) level in order to fully participate comfortably in the classroom. This class is also suitable for native speaking children who want to improve their reading skills and take part in an exciting adventure!

I specialize in making learning fun and interactive for everyone. I have worked very hard to develop this course to be as accessible and fun as possible for students. I always welcome curiosity from students about English pronunciation, vocabulary definitions, or hard to understand sentences, because sometimes the best way to learn is by asking questions!

I find that students who have played video games before or who are fans of RPG style games (such as Pokémon, Dungeons and Dragons, or Final Fantasy) tend to be more successful in this class as many of the mechanics are similar. However, my lessons are designed to be accessible for new students, as well, so even if they've never played an RPG before, they'll still have a good time!

Feel free to sign up for my other available 'Trolls, Text, and Treasures' courses if you enjoyed this one! Each course will be centered around a different campaign and will take place in a different location, so your young learner can explore a fantastical Wonderland, a terrifying pumpkin patch, or hunt for dragon's eggs, all while mastering their reading and vocabulary skills!

I look forward to adventuring with your student in our class!
Learning Goals

Parental Guidance
*NOTE: This is a longer, more challenging campaign meant for previous players of 'Trolls, Text, and Treasures.' It is recommended that your young learner try one of the simpler previous campaigns before trying to take on the Monstrous Mansion! In this class, students will be battling monsters with their chosen character. There is nothing particularly violent other than the occasional written mention of blood or a skeleton in-game, but if your young learner is easily frightened in these situations, this course may not be for them! Students will not be required to use any third-party software tools for this course. All lessons are conducted through Google Slides and will be screen shared during class by myself, so just make sure your student brings a six-sided dice and their sense of imagination to class!
Supply List
Students should bring a six sided dice to our class, which will be used to do skill checks and calculate battle damage in-game. Students have much more fun if they use their own dice instead of the teacher's when playing!

No third-party software tools are necessary for students in this course. All materials are screenshared during the lesson through Google slides, so your student only needs to attend class and be ready to learn!
