Class Experience

Learn how to act, sing and dance with the King of Hamilton, Rick Negron!!!

The class begins with a proper physical warm-up. A vocal warm-up will then prepare us to work on material that is appropriate to each student. Students will learn the art of breaking down a song in acting beats. The proper way to learn a song by working on musical rhythms and melody. Also where to breathe in a song and applying character, place and clear acting choices to the material. The final step will be to add choreography to the performance and finding storytelling in the movement. We will work on material from shows that feature Triple Threats (i.e. ANNIE, WEST SIDE STORY & HAMILTON).

WHO IS YOUR TEACHER?
Rick Negron plays King George III in the And Peggy Tour of HAMILTON. He was last seen on Broadway in IN THE HEIGHTS with Lin-Manuel Miranda. His Broadway credits include MAMMA MIA!, RAGTIME, MAN OF LA MANCHA, THE GOODBYE GIRL, LEGS DIAMOND, THE MYSTERY OF EDWIN DROOD & LEADER OF THE PACK. He worked closely with Jerome Robbins in several tours of WEST SIDE STORY and danced in Michael Jackson’s BAD video. He can also be seen in the Academy Award-winning film CHICAGO.
Learning Goals
Students will learn ways to warm up their bodies and improve strength and flexibility. We will also learn basic dance steps to increase movement vocabulary. We will also cover basic vocal techniques that will improve tone and breathe control. Acting techniques will focus on character research, situational awareness and the needs and desires that drive everyone to behave the way they do. I will also share valuable tips from my decades of experience on Broadway.

Parental Guidance
To make the experience as smooth and easy as possible, we have a few recommendations for the class: - The name displayed on your device for Zoom should be your child's first name - Please log in 5 minutes before class starts - Please be aware of space, lighting, and camera angling so the teachers can fully see the kids - Please do not use Zoom backgrounds - When setting up your child's class area, please remove all nearby chairs and have kids far from couches so they are not tempted to sit and not participate. All that is necessary is a small space, clear from clutter. - Please remove any distractions (don't have TVs on in the background, pets, extra iPads sitting around, etc.) - Please discourage use of headphones - Comfortable clothing that the learner can move in - Regarding shoes for class, we understand that everyone’s dance environment is different at the moment – some may be dancing on carpet, some may have slick wooden floors, etc. We place an emphasis on safety and recommend you assess what is the best for your child’s dance experience in the home environment, whether that be dancing in bare feet, jazz shoes, sneakers, socks (on carpet), etc. - Make sure your child has water nearby to stay hydrated during classes WEST SIDE STORY & HAMILTON deal with adult themes and may not be appropriate for younger students but the teacher will NOT use material from the shows that includes adult themes.
