Register today with the Music & Language Learning Center with a $10 discount: 𝐋𝐀𝐍𝐆𝐔𝐌𝐔𝐒𝐃𝐈𝐒𝐂𝟏𝟎𝟏𝟎 Students will learn through lectures, readings, exercises, and listening assignments provided by the teacher. This is a live interactive online course limited to 3-6 students to ensure exclusivity and that each student receives the attention they need from the instructor. Students may email the instructor if there are any questions regarding the material in this course. The class time is structured according to the following topics as outlined in the Trinity College of Music. Supplementary materials will be provided for additional practice. The final meeting will consist of a mock exam where learners will be coached on how to take the practice exam for the Trinity College of Music: Grade 7 exam. Upon completion, the following class would be 𝐓𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐜: 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝟖 (𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐜 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐨𝐫𝐲). There will be listening and writing assignments will be due two days prior to the scheduled meeting to allow the instructor to provide timely feedback to the learner via the Outschool classroom. Instructions will be provided to the learners in the first meeting regarding how assignments will be submitted. While the assignments are not mandatory, it is highly recommended to complete them to receive the best results from the course and in preparing for the exam for the learner. The final class will be a mock exam where learners will be taking a sample exam of the Trinity College of Music. In our first week, students will gain a solid understanding of note values and explore various unusual time signatures. This session will enhance their rhythmic literacy and encourage creativity in composing with unique meters.

Transposing Melodies
Students will learn the art of transposing melodies, focusing on how to shift pieces into different keys. This week emphasizes the importance of key signature recognition and will provide practical exercises to strengthen their transposition skills.

This week introduces whole-tone scales and the Dorian mode, highlighting their distinct sounds and uses in music. Students will engage in listening and composition exercises to apply these concepts in their musical practices.

Scales and Melody Writing; 12-Bar Blues
Students will continue their exploration of scales while also focusing on melody writing. This week will feature the 12-bar blues structure, encouraging students to create their own blues melodies, fostering both creativity and musical understanding.

🎵 𝗗𝗿. 𝗞𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝘇𝗼𝗻, 𝐏𝐡𝐃 🗣️ is Founder of the Music & Language Learning Center. Currently serves at the Banting Postdoctoral Fellow (2024-2026) at Concordia University, Montréal, she is also recipient of the Fulbright and Portuguese Science & Technology awards. She is an internationally known linguist, teacher, and professional musician who has taught on four continents. Her passion for service stemmed from her work as an AmeriCorps Vista Fellow. In her spare time, she likes to play with her pet rabbit, Señor Blanco.
