Description

Class Experience

The goal of this class is to help the learner review or begin to realize the importance of listening for details and to begin to be a better listener by following directions containing an increasing number of details.
For more than three decades, I have successfully helped hundreds of children, teens and adults in public school, private school, homeschool and wellness center settings improve their listening and memory skills. I have a M.S. degree in speech-language pathology and earned a Master's level teaching certification. I am also an Interactive Metronome (IM) Certified Provider. IM is a computer based brain fitness training program. We can all benefit from practice in listening for details. I enjoy having a fun and structured class as I help learners improve their ability to listen for detail so they can function even better in all aspects of their daily life.
1 or 2 pieces of 8.5x11 paper each class. White or light colored copy paper is best, but lined paper is acceptable if copy paper isn't available. A pencil with an eraser or an erasable pen OR a dry erase board with dry erase markers may be used instead of paper.
Assessments will be informal. As each step in the activity is completed, the learners responses will be checked for correctness. Learners will receive repititions from the teacher or a classmate as needed for success. All learners are expected to be respectful and encouraging to one another.
25 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
As needed, 'brain breaks' involving minimal physical movement, will be taken. ***Minimal physical activity may involve balancing on one foot, therefore learners should have a chair or sturdy piece of furniture to hold on to for balance when needed***.
