To showcase company and economic news, I use Yahoo Finance (finance.yahoo.com). It is a free, well known and respected site for news and financial information. Students will not need to access finance.yahoo.com during class - I will be using the site to share articles with the class on my screen.
We will also use the educational website, Kahoot.com, for our weekly interactive news games. Students will need to access the website, kahoot.it during our class meetings in order to participate in the game. They can do that on the same device they are using for the zoom meeting OR a 2nd device, like a smart phone or tablet.
All content used in this course is age appropriate and does not include any sensitive topics (political, sexual, violent, etc.).
Supply List
No supplies are needed. Kahoot games can be played on the same device used for the Zoom meeting or on a 2nd device (smart phone, ipad/tablet).

As a former Financial Services Professional and certified Business Education Teacher, I love teaching how current events affect us all. My experience in the industry gives me a deep knowledge of economics, government and business, including the process of buying and selling stocks. Understanding the news is an important life skill and using Kahoot games as a vehicle for covering the news is and engaging and fun way to teach big, important topics. That's why it's critical for young adults to learn how digest, evaluate, and analyze what they see and hear on social media and TV.
Based on my extensive experience teaching this subject, I know how to make it interesting and memorable. I use video clips and cartoon drawings to make the content easy to understand and remember. This class is interactive, not lecture based, so students will have the opportunity to discuss, share experiences, and ask questions. I will help students discover how current events effect the economy, government policy, and their lives so they are more interested the world around them.
