More than any other conflict, World War I was defined by a complicated system of trench warfare. The type of battles that were fought doing the Great War are unique in the history of warfare,. Why did this develop? How did new technologies create this type of battle? What was fighting this war like for the soldiers in the trenches? The students in this course will discuss and gain an understanding of these questions. Through discussion, film clips, diagrams, historical photographs and other media the students will gain an understanding of how and why the battles of this war were fought and won.
Learning Goals
Students will gain an understanding of how and why trench warfare developed during World War I. They will also learn what this type of combat meant to the soldiers.

Parental Guidance
The trenches of World War I were hellish places. The class will discuss and show depictions of violent battles that led to millions of deaths.
