Students will be asked to add to their own personal "travel itinerary" and research the places they are most interested in between each class.Class Experience
In this 4-week flexible schedule course, we will take a virtual vacation and explore four of the most well-traveled regions of Japan. Our travel itinerary is as follows: Week 1: Tokyo & Mt. Fuji Week 2: Sapporo & Sapporo Snow Festival Week 3: Kyoto & Nara Week 4: Osaka & Himeji As we "travel to" each location together, we will explore sights that appeal to a variety of travelers. Whether you're into exciting city life and shopping, fun Japanese TV, ancient history and culture, beautiful natural formations, or scrumptious cuisine - we'll see it all! Along the way, we'll stop and learn about what life is like in Japan, discussing the aspects of Japanese culture that make it unique. Each week, students will be expected to: 1) Watch the video tour 2) Record a short video project (1-2 min) 3) Participate in group discussion board Each week, students will watch a pre-recorded video tour about the places on the itinerary for that day. Students will be asked to add to their own personal "travel itinerary" and research the place they find the most interesting. They will share their findings in a short video. Students will then watch other students' projects and provide feedback. Students will also participate in a weekly discussion board. World travelers are good communicators; they enjoy getting to know other people and sharing the stories of their travels. Each student will answer the discussion board prompt (asking about favorite food, shrines, etc.) and reply to other students' comments as well. More detailed instructions on the weekly assignments will be provided at the beginning of each week. I cater my classes to the needs and understanding of each group of students. There will be plentiful interaction. Comments and questions are always welcome in my classroom. Though no previous knowledge of the Japanese language is required, this course may be taken after my One-Time course "Konnichiwa! I Can Speak Japanese”, if students are not ready to commit to a 4-week course.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Science from Brigham Young University-Idaho
I lived in Japan for 2 years as a volunteer. We studied the Japanese language, traveled, befriended native Japanese people and from them learned much about their beautiful culture. I have personally visited most of the places in the "travel itinerary". I have also researched each area from the perspective of a "tourist" to understand them through a visitor's eyes. I'm excited to share the wonders of Japan with interested students!
