Welcome to Karen's travel course! This class focuses on traversing London. Paddington, the beloved bear character, will act as our guide while we tour this city. Each class will have a PowerPoint presentation that students will follow along with during class. Videos, pictures, quizzes, and games will be used to motivate each learner. This class will focus both on the highlights of London and the Paddington stories. In each class a Paddington story will be read aloud to the students. We will then visit the locations featured in the story of the week. Here is a breakdown of the course... Week 1: Students will be introduced to the teacher and other enrolled students. We will begin class by listening to the story "Paddington" by Michael Bond. We will then visit Paddington Train Station where it all began. Then we'll travel around by double-decker bus and learn about transportation in the big city. Finally, we'll see 32 Windsor Gardens, where Paddington and the Brown's lived. Week 2: This week we finish the story "Paddington" by Michael Bond that we started in week one. Today's locations include the National Gallery where we marvel at historic paintings of the past, a boat tour down the Thames river, and Shakespeare's Globe Theater. Week 3: During week 3, we listen to "Paddington and the Marmalade Maze" by Michael Bond. First, we will visit Hampton Court, where the Marmalade Maze is located. Next we'll visit the London Eye, a large Ferris wheel. Finally, we'll stop at The Tower of London and discover this ancient castle. Week 4: During our final week we will read "Paddington at the Palace" by Michael Bond. We visit some famous locations not seen before, such as Kew Gardens and travel on the London Underground. Finally, we'll see Buckingham Palace, home to the Queen. BEFORE CLASS: 1. My classroom policies are listed on my teaching profile. I recommend you read them before class begins. 2. I recommend that parents review this "Zoom Support" article before class to help solve any technical issues that may arise. http://gg.gg/zoomsupport

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Colorado State University
Having backpacked across and lived in the United Kingdom, I have many memories journeying across the nation of England. I am a travel enthusiast and love learning about architecture and the history of each place I visit. In class, I plan to use my own travel experience to motivate students to travel to England themselves someday! My ancestry is from Great Britain, so many of the places I visit with my students in our travels are places that are tied into where I am from and my family's history.
