Class Experience
In this class, young students will learn about French artist Henri Rousseau who used his imagination as well as resources available in 19 century Paris to paint his jungle scenes. Children will learn a few details about Rousseau's life including the fact that he never traveled to jungle, but studied exotic animals and plants by visiting zoos and botanical gardens. We'll compare Parisian landscapes that Rousseau saw in his daily life with jungle scenes that he created in his art. We'll talk...
Students will: • learn some facts about Rousseau • learn (or review) what artists do • practice their observation skills • use their imagination • use their story telling skills • exercise their fine motor skills while working on an art project
Supply List: • Shoe box WITHOUT LID OR TOP (please cut it off if attached) • Playdough • Wide blades of grass and / or Multiple leaves in oval shape OR any kind of green plants • In winter (when there are no green plants), substitute with any of the following: construction paper, tissue paper, clay, playdough, pipe cleaners • Glue • Crayons or pencils • Scotch tape
55 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
For the craft portion of the class, parental guidance is required for younger students (ages 4-5) for the use of scissors and other materials. Parental guidance is recommended for older students (ages 6-8). Please note that as per Outschool policy, parents should remain off camera Thank you.
