Welcome to Karen's travel course! This class focuses on traversing Scotland. Each class will have a PowerPoint presentation that students will follow along with during class. Videos, pictures, quizzes, interactive features, and games will be used to motivate each learner. Having backpacked Scotland myself, I plan to share my own photos and travel experiences with the students in this class. Students will learn about the history and beauty of Scotland's attractions and the geography of the country. Here is a breakdown of the course... Week 1: Students will be introduced to the teacher, other enrolled students, and course syllabus. Students will complete a fun quiz at the beginning of class to see how much they already know about the country of Scotland. Then we will begin our travels in the city of Edinburgh and discuss the major landmarks and culture of the capital. Week 2: We begin this class with an Edinburgh refresher and quickly move on to the southwest of Scotland. Home to the Ayrshire Coast, students will learn about Culzean Castle and what coastal culture is like in Scotland. Next, we travel up through the city of Glasgow and learn about the history of this artsy city as we view the famous cathedral and Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum. Week 3: In week 3 we head north through Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. Here we learn about Inveraray Castle which can be recognized from the TV series Downton Abbey. Just north we reach Fort William, home of the Jacobite Steam Train which stood in as a magical train in many films. We travel through Glencoe in the highlands and view filming locations and serene landscapes. Week 4: During our final class we learn about the Isle of Skye and the capital, Portree. We then head to Loch Ness, the home to the infamous Loch Ness Monster and learn about the tale. Other castles and gardens along the way will be discussed. BEFORE CLASS: 1. My classroom policies are listed on my teaching profile. I recommend you read them before class begins. 2. I recommend that parents review this "Zoom Support" article before class to help solve any technical issues that may arise. http://gg.gg/zoomsupport

Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Colorado State University
Having backpacked across and lived in the United Kingdom, I have many memories journeying across the nation of Scotland. I am a travel enthusiast and love learning about architecture and the history of each place I visit. In class, I plan to use my own travel experience to motivate students to travel to Scotland themselves someday! My ancestry is from Great Britain, so many of the places I visit with my students in our travels are places that are tied into where I am from and my family's history.
