Class Experience

So many places, so little time! How would you like to spend your vacation visiting famous areas around the world through your own art work? In this three day workshop, we're going to visit three beautiful places so make sure to pack your best paintbrushes in your travel bag and let's get started!

"Choose Your Painting!": As with all my art classes, I like to give learners a choice of at least two different styles at the beginning of each class. This way each learner can see different ways of painting the same place as well as have some freedom as to which painting they'd like to make. (And because every learner is at a different art level, it's nice to have options!)

This class will be very interactive so I will ask the learner questions during class to keep them engaged. Any art medium can be used: poster paint, acrylic paint, watercolors or any other medium of their choice.

Our 3 day Travel Itinerary is as follows:

Day One: Our plane will first be landing in Paris, France! What will we be painting? The Eiffel Tower of course! We will learn how to write the French word for this famous monument and learners will have the option to include it in the painting if they'd like.

Day Two: For our next stop, we will be flying all the way to Japan! What will we see there? Mount Fuji with some cherry blossoms! We will learn some fun facts about visiting beautiful Japan. (Simple Japanese characters may be shown to be included in the artwork.)

Day Three: Finally we will end our trip by making a stop in Iceland to paint the magnificent Northern Lights! After learning a couple fun facts about our last destination, it will be time to head home.

While it's always sad to end a fun trip, you will leave with three beautiful souvenirs to take home with you: your paintings!

I can't wait to see your learner's creations at the end of our "trip"!

About this camp: Each day will be an instructional class so I will be showing step by step how to create each picture, letting the learner follow along. As we paint, learners will be seeing some basic beginner principles of painting such as where to start first, the power of color, and creating depth. Of course, if a learner just wants to watch for inspiration and create their own picture with a different look, this is perfectly fine too.

Please keep in mind that while we may briefly discuss certain words in other languages, such as in French or Japanese, in order to add some flavor to our artwork and learn what a typical tourist might see when traveling, the focus of this class is not to learn about the languages or cultures of the countries where these famous places are located. Rather, the focus of this workshop will be on the art, and emphasis will be given to helping learners to use painting to create pictures inspired by beautiful places around the world.

Commonly Asked Questions:

My learner prefers a different art medium. Is this OK?
Yes, any art medium can be used. Most of my artwork is done using either watercolor, gouache, or acrylic. However, if your learner prefers something else, this is perfectly fine. Feel free to let me know what preferences your learner may have.

My learner is very young and doesn't have any art experience. Will this class be too difficult for them?
The beauty of art is that all ages can enjoy making it! At the beginning of each class I will show a couple different painting examples (some easier and simpler than others) so that we can choose the one that best fits the level of your learner.

My child would like to take this class with their friend. Is it possible to have more than one learner sign up for the camp?
Yes. While this camp is set to 1:1 by default, I can always open up another spot if your learner would like to take it with their friend(s). This can make class more fun for sure! Simply contact me for details if this interests you.

My learner really enjoyed this class. Do you have another workshop that features other famous places around the world?
Yes. If your learner enjoys this camp, please let me know and I will be sure to publish Part 2 for any learners interested.

Note to parents and guardians: Depending on your learner's age, this class may need to be monitored as young children often need help setting up their art supplies, working in a spill safe zone, and with cleaning up. Please make sure your child has their art supplies handy so they can get started as easily as possible.

If you are looking for another type of class similar to this one but tailored more to your learner's current needs, feel free to reach out to me and I'll do my best to try and assist you!

Don't see a time listed that's convenient for your learner? Feel free to reach out to me with a day/time request!

Supply List
While learners can request to use any medium they would like (crayons, colored pencils, pastels, etc), here is what they will need if they would like to do watercolor: watercolor paper (this is a thicker paper made specifically for using watercolors), watercolor paints, at least one paintbrush, a cup of water for dipping the brush in, and a paper towel (or other towel to avoid spills/clean up). If your learner prefers another paint type such as poster paint or acrylic paint you can use any kind of paper that is sturdy enough for painting on along with a cup of water, paintbrush, paper towel, and paper plate/painting dish for putting the paint in.

Art has been one of my favorite subjects since I was a small child. I am highly passionate about all the arts and painting is no exception! Because of this, I host zoom "art nights" where both children and adults around the US get together and paint or sketch, with some doing digital art. I also enjoy traveling and have done 1-3 month long trips to various countries including Costa Rica, France, Japan, and Ecuador. I love embracing all places and cultures and seeing how it can add depth to my artwork!
