Description
Class Experience
At the end of each class, students will gain insight into the culture of each country we visit together. It is my hope that students begin to understand the uniqueness of each country and have a deep appreciation for the continent's diversity.
I have my Bachelors and Masters degrees in Sociology and have taken courses such as Political economies of African States, Sociology of the Third World, Social Development of Africa economies, and Symbolism in Africa amongst others. In addition to these, I grew up in Ghana, hence I have had first-hand experience and a good understanding of some of its cultures.
Optional activity: Students are encouraged to create their own postcards from each country we visit together. Please check the classroom for the weekly worksheet/postcard template. Other supplies include materials for writing and coloring (pencil/pen, crayons, gel pens, colored pencils, etc).
40 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Please note that topics of slavery, colonialism, war & famine may come up in class. If your learner is sensitive to these issues, please let me know.
