Calling all Wings of Fire fans! Feeling angry? We all get angry! In this one-time class, students will learn about how their anger impacts them, and practice techniques designed to bring a feeling of peace and tranquility to their lives. This class is perfect for those who are ready to learn the basics of guided relaxation in a fun, interactive way. No prior knowledge is needed, just a desire to relax! Students will first engage in some Wings of Fire trivia. This is a great time to show off any dragonet knowledge! They will then discuss the definition and purpose of anger with guidance from the teacher. Sensitive topics will be avoided-only general definitions will be discussed. Next, we will discuss how some of the different dragons/dragonets react to anger (Glory, Tsunami, Peril, Queen Scarlett, Moon, and Clay). Then, we will learn and practice a deep breathing technique called "Dragon Breathing" that will help students calm down when angry. Next, students will participate in a guided relaxation activity using visualization and dragon themes from the Wings of Fire series. Afterword, students will each have a chance to share how they visualized their "anger dragons." Students will then learn three steps to controlling one's anger effectively. Finally, students will have the opportunity to provide the teacher feedback and ask any questions about the relaxation exercise. *Please note that this class is not intended to provide therapy and is not affiliated in any way with the Wings of Fire book series.
Learning Goals
Students will learn to reduce their anger through a guided relaxation exercise. They will also practice a simple, fun breathing exercise in a calm, peaceful environment, while also having fun discussing dragons.
