*Please note that this is a more comprehensive and in-depth version of my popular one-time "Train Your Anger Dragon" class. * Having difficulty controlling your anger and frustration? In this multi-day, 4 time class, students will learn about how their anger impacts them, and practice techniques designed to bring a feeling of peace and tranquility to their lives. This class is perfect for those who are ready to learn the basics of guided relaxation in a fun, interactive way. No prior knowledge is needed, just a desire to relax! In this class, we will discuss how anger is a natural response that can become a problem if not managed in healthy ways. We will learn techniques to effectively communicate what we feel, as well as strategies that can be used to regulate emotions. Day 1: Students will discuss the definition of anger. We will learn the purpose of anger, and how anger is a normal emotion. Students will then learn and discuss the physiological manifestations of anger. They will learn about how deep breathing exercises reduce anger by slowing down their heart rates and providing additional oxygen to their brains. This in turn allows them to think clearly and make better choices about how to deal with their anger. We will then learn and practice a deep breathing technique called "Dragon Breathing" that will help them to relax. Day 2: Students will discover where anger "lives" in their bodies, and discuss strategies to make deep breathing more effective. They will then discuss the "How to Train Your Dragon" movies/shows/books. They will also be introduced to tools that help them relate their anger to the character of Toothless. They will then participate in a guided relaxation activity using dragon themes from the movie "How to Train Your Dragon." They will also use guided imagery during this activity to create and draw their own Anger Dragon. Day 3: Students will share their Anger Dragon drawings with the class. We will discuss how these drawings are a tangible way to represent our anger. We will explore how anger is a part of us, and learn techniques that help us to accept and integrate our anger. Students will learn and discuss in depth the three steps to controlling one's anger, and provide practical, real-life examples. Finally, we will participate in a guided relaxation activity called "Anger Eraser." Day 4: We will review the three steps to controlling anger from Day 3 and the "Dragon Breathing" exercise from Day 2 to ensure understanding. We will discuss how anger is like an iceberg, and brainstorm different coping skills that can be used to deal with anger. At the end of Day 4, I will provide printable resources to reinforce these ideas and coping skills. Finally, students will have the opportunity to provide the teacher feedback and ask any questions. My teaching style is highly interactive! I teach through a combination of live lectures and discussion. I frequently ask questions and allow students to also ask questions. I want my students to feel valued and engaged! I love to encourage participation, and I think that students can learn so much from their peers. I believe that collaborative learning is such a great tool! Additionally, I have learned a great deal from my students, and highly value their input and ideas. I frequently provide time for discussion, and I love to relate real world examples and demonstrations to our class topics. *Please note that this class is not intended to provide therapy, and sensitive topics will be avoided.*
