In this class, learners will get the chance to make traditional shortbread cookies and learn the history of where shortbread originated. We will be taking a few simple ingredients and mixing them into little dough squares with two fun twists. Because we are in the kitchen we will go over some safety tips for learners to be aware of and remember for the next time they are in the kitchen. Equipment: Hand or standing mixer preferred but not necessary, 1 Large Bowl, Kneading Board (or flat surface), Baking Spatula, 1 Sifter/Strainer, 1 pin roller, fork or lace material (optional) Ingredients: 4 oz Unsalted Butter (Kerrygold Irish Butter preferred) 1/3 cup Sugar 1 cup All Purpose Flour 1/4 cup Cornflour (not cornmeal) 1/2 tsp Salt Green food coloring (optional) Cocoa Powder (optional)
55 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
For these recipes, we will be using the oven and a knife. I will go over kitchen safety with the learners and instruct them how to properly hold instruments. Please look over the ingredient list to ensure there are no allergies or sensitivities.
