Class experience

The study of Algebra is the study of relations. Algebra is a comprehensive exploration of mathematical relationships, including both equations and inequalities. In this course, equations and inequalities are studied together, and distinctions are made only when necessary, to clarify functional differences.

The concepts of Algebra develop by degrees. Relations of first-degree should be mastered first. In this course, first-degree relations are examined exhaustively before higher-order relations are even introduced.

Prerequisites: Students should have finished the highest level of Elementary, or General Math available. I believe parents are a good judge of when their child is ready to dive into Pre-Algebra.

***If you're not sure if the class is right for your student, please message me and I will give you the end-of-class unit review and solutions so you can be sure.

How do I know if my child is ready for Pre-Algebra?
* Knows how to add, subtract, multiply and divide using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
* Knows "a little" about positive and negative numbers, such as above and below zero on a thermometer, or gaining and losing points in a game.
* Knows how to change fractions to decimals, and decimals to fractions.
* Knows how percent relates to fractions and decimals.
I believe algebra is one of those subjects that is so important for young students to master. Yet, there is often a bias against it, because students (like my own children) consider themselves "not good at math". I just don't believe that. I believe that the teacher has just not spoken their language. I believe that for all subjects.

I personally lament the lack of critical thinking and problem solving that I see everyday. Among all ages of adults. I know that Algebra is not the magic potion, but it certainly is part of the important mental development of young people.

As far as myself being a good choice as a teacher...aside from my varied experience (please see my profile), there is nothing I enjoy more than watching a student's eyes light up with understanding as I teach. It is delightful.
I will provide the daily problems, quizzes and test in pdf format. Students will need paper and pencil. I like to see their work, there is no better way to see what they might not be understanding.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Nothing.
