Tortoises From Around the World!

In this one-time class, students will learn about four different species of tortoises including Galapagos, Red-Foot, African Spurred (Sulcata), and Gopher tortoises. Students will be able to observe two Red Foot Tortoises during class!

Class Experience

In this class, we will learn about the behaviors, habitat, diet, and life of four different types of land tortoises found all around the world. This class will combine geography and biology by having an open discuss while utilizing a slideshow showing where in the world these animals live. We will compare and contrast all four species of tortoises and create a graphic organizer as a group to organize our thoughts and ideas throughout the lesson. Students will learn geography by being able to locate where certain species of tortoises live in the world. We will also learn about the environment, diet, and life of each species. Students will also learn how to organize their thoughts and ideas from the beginning to the end of the lesson by using a graphic organizer (KWL chart). Students will also be able to observe Red Foot Tortoises in class.
