Once we solve the mystery using our imagination and thinking skills, "agents" will receive via email their Certified Secret Agent certificate with their name.Class Experience
US Grade Kindergarten - 3
Learners will be engaged in a mystery to solve by discovering what kind of tools a secret agent uses, hunting for clues with the instructor, decoding a secret message, as well as learning how to write secret messages with "invisible" ink. I will take on the role of a secret agent trainer who has been given a confidential and important mystery to solve. This is a fun and exciting game of role-playing with an emphasis in imaginative play and critical thinking. I will be using a slide presentation with details and instructions while using my surroundings to find clues - I'll need the learners' help finding them! As clues and codes appear, the learners will help me choose what tool to use from my spy kit to decipher the clues. Once we solve the mystery using our crime-stopping skills, "agents" will receive their Certified Secret Agent Spy certificate in the Outschool classroom. *Note: All text on slides is read-aloud by me so learners who aren't quite readers yet should be just fine.
Learning Goals
Learners in this course will:
1) Use their imagination to come up with a spy code name that suits them (imaginative play)
2) Decipher a code to an important clue in our assignment (critical thinking)
3) Learn how to create a secret message using a white crayon, white printer paper, and a colored marker (art & imaginative play)
4) Take clues found to narrow down the criminal out of four likely suspects (critical thinking, deduction)

Appropriate materials and subject matter for age range. There is reference to a crime ("It has come to our attention that a crime has been committed. Every birthday cake in town has been stolen!")

Hi! I'm Jenna! I've had the pleasure of working on the Outschool platform since June of 2020.
I am a project manager, Certified Scrum Master, and official Canva #Canvassador!
I love creating content for expansive reach and engagement on social platforms. I specialize in streamlining the content creation process and principles of social media analytics.
My teaching philosophy is focused on inclusion and confidence. From my experience as a learning and development project manager, I'm keen in identifying students' learning styles and adapting material to cater to those styles. My classes invite a learner to an environment where they can feel they belong while feeling confident in their abilities to succeed.

Teacher Jenna’s Class Policies & Expectations
1) I have prepared materials so that classes will last as close as possible to the allotted amount of time. However, classes with low enrollments or very talkative students may run a few minutes under or a few minutes over. Should my schedule permit, I am happy to stay a few minutes after to chat further with learners.
2) Should a class have less than the minimum number of required learners, two things may occur: a) I will continue forward with the class as the benefit of the material is not based on the number of learners, OR b) I will contact the parent/guardian/learner to transfer the learner to a another section if desired.
3) Classes will begin on time. This is the case even if all learners have not yet joined in the classroom. Absent learners will not be contacted during the class in order to focus present learners. Recordings of the class are available upon request.
4) If no learners are in the classroom, I will wait 10 minutes before ending the class. Should this occur, I will contact parents/learners after I have left the classroom. (Outschool policy)
5) Learners should remain on mute throughout the class to avoid any distracting or awkward background noises. All learners will get to comment, ask questions, and otherwise participate by raising their hands and being called on.
6) Learners are asked to have their video on at the start of class so the learners’ identities can be confirmed. (Outschool policy)
7) Parents and siblings are welcome to watch the class off-camera. However, if siblings are going to both participate, each sibling must be enrolled in the lesson individually. Siblings cannot attend and participate in class with only one enrollment in the class. (Outschool policy)
8) All students are required to be kind and courteous to themselves and others while in the class. Should a learner not abide by this expectation, two warnings will be given. If a third warning is warranted, the student will be placed into the waiting room until I feel they are ready to rejoin the rest of the class. If a learner’s behavior is considered extreme or unsafe, the Outschool support team and the learner’s parent/guardian will be notified. The good news is – I’ve never had to do this!
