About me
Hi, My name is Krizia but you can call me Mrs. K.
I am an artist professional; I have been painting and drawing for 26 years. I have a master’s degree from Miami International University of Art and Design with a MFA in Fine Art. I also have a Bachelors from Florida International University for Liberal Studies and a Minor in Art. I have an Associate’s degree from Miami Dade College is in Mass Communications in Journalism.
I have a passion for teaching others about Art and I want all my students to thrive in what they love. I have taught art in Charter Schools and my students have won awards such as Lions Gate (World Wide Art Competition), they have also been accepted into schools such as DASH and New World School of the Arts. I have also done private classes and portfolio development and review. I have taught many classes in a variety of art avenues, some of which are:
• Art Appreciation 1, 2, 3 • Drawing & Painting 1, 2, 3 • Art History • Gallery Preparation • Visual Arts Studio • Idea Generation & Creative Process • 3D Art 1 • Art 2D 1, 2 • Art Comprehensive 2 • Macrame • Sculpture • Figure Drawing 1, 2, 3 • Mural Painting
As an art educator, I try to encourage my students to be bold, innovative, and take risks in their artwork. I believe that each child is a unique individual who needs a secure, caring, and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, socially and creatively. It is my desire as an educator to help students meet their fullest potential in these areas by providing an environment that is safe, supports risk-taking, and invites the sharing of ideas. Giving students the opportunity to work individually and in-group discussion settings provides them the ability to exchange ideas and creative concepts while allowing them to develop social skills.
There are three elements that I believe are conducive to establishing such an environment, (1) the teacher acting as a guide, a step-by-step instruction while watching me do it so that they may learn and master the skill being taught (2) allowing the child's natural curiosity to direct his/her creativity and artistic skills, and (3) promoting respect for all things and all people.
Equally important to self-discovery that I have experienced myself as a student and as a teacher is having the opportunity to study things that are meaningful and relevant to one's life and interests. Developing a curriculum around student interests, techniques, and creative projects that are fun and stimulating for creativity giving students the freedom to express themselves with guidelines fosters intrinsic motivation and stimulates the passion to learn. Given the opportunity for input, students generate ideas and set goals that make for much richer activities. When students have ownership in their projects, they are motivated to work hard and master the skills necessary to reach their goals.
I am currently a homeschool mom of two. I have been homeschooling for 7 years now and plan to finish with both of my children. But now that my kids are old enough, I feel it is time for me to begin teaching again and share my passion for art to students who want to be creative and share the same passion. I want to inspire students who want to pursue art as a passion or a career.
My hobbies are learning how to sew, singing, dancing, gardening and making homemade herbal products. I love the outdoors! I love traveling, camping, water sports and I also do Parkour with my son.
I hope we are a good fit and I look forward to seeing you in class!
