Description
Class Experience
The learner will be taught the phases of the moon and elements/descriptions of the moon. They will be able to understand famous astronauts and design their own lander to save the astronaut on their trip to and from the moon. The class will be structured with a brief warm-up activity on fun facts for a famous astronaut. Next, they will gain knowledge and information through the hands-on project for the day. Students will understand the eight phases of the moon, what craters are, and famous astronauts. They will use higher-order thinking questions, predictions, and design/engineering to complete projects.

Oreo Moon Phases - 8 Oreos, paper plate, pencil, spoon, paper, coloring items Whip Up Moon Craters - flour, cake sprinkles, cocoa powder, cake pan, spoon, 3 rocks of various sizes, sifter (optional) Astronaut Lander: one 8-12 oz cup, 3 rubber bands, 8 plastic straws, scissors, cardboard (4 x 5 in), 2 regular marshmallows, 10 miniature marshmallows, tape (1 meter), 3 index cards
Learners will be assessed via the wrap-up activity as well as informally throughout the discussions and participation in the activities.
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
