US Grade 2 - 5
There is a lot to outer space beyond our solar system! In this four week course we will explore aspects of space such as stellar evolution, black holes, galaxies, and even how extrasolar planets are found! Students will be introduced to concepts such as but not limited to gravity, relativity, and galaxy evolution. This is a highly interactive course. Students will learn through an image and video filled presentation and discussion. Students’ participation and questions are regularly encouraged. This course is perfect for the young space enthusiast who wants to deepen and expand their knowledge of Space. However, no previous knowledge in the subject is required. Classes are designed to encourage student engagement and follow their curiosity. Week One: Stars Stellar Properties Main Sequence Stars Star Birth and Death Supernovas Week Two: Black holes and neutron stars Neutron Stars Pulsars Gamma-Ray Bursts Black Holes Relativity Week Three: Exoplanets Planetology Detection Classification Week Four: Galaxies The Milky Way Galactic Structures Distribution There are no prerequisites for this class. While we will discuss some of the mathematics used in space studies, learners will not need to use math in this course, unless they would like to for “extra credit”.
