55 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
This class allows learners an opportunity to choose, prepare and perform a one-minute monologue for teacher adjudication. As a group, we will discuss the components of a good monologue. We will watch a video of a good monologue performance. We will also discuss blocking and placement. Each class participant will then do the following: -choose a monologue from my offerings - perform a cold reading -receive feedback on character, vocal quality, and performance quality -practice with feedback in mind -perform the monologue again -receive final feedback Learners do not need to have prior experience. Even if a learner has never performed a monologue before, he/she/they will be guided with plenty of support. Learners can download monologue options ahead of time to become more familiar with selections. I encourage all learners to be open to watching and learning from each other. Learners also have the option of recording their monologue and getting feedback by message.
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to choose and perform a short monologue.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have been a certified theatre arts educator for over 28 years. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communication and Theatre Arts; a Masters of Education in Middles School Education; and a Masters of Fine Arts in Motion Pictures and Television. When I first began teaching as a Teach For America corps member in 2003, there was no curriculum for drama/theatre in the elementary/middle school environment. I had the freedom and the challenge of creating her own program. Sure, it had probably been done before, but resources offered by working professionals and others offered activity ideas without a logical way to fit such activities into the classroom environment. There was a yearning for structure and substance that could help the students, staff, and administrators respect the art more. Over the years, I have been able to create a framework that has been very successful! I currently provide private lessons for children and adults. I have my own theatre company, GroundedTheatre Werx, LLC. I have former students that are now Broadway stars, commercial entertainers, artists, and entrepreneurs who credit my class for making a difference in their lives.
