Description
Class Experience
In this one-time class, young learners K-1 will play games and practice writing skills. Getting comfortable with writing is the first step to building life-long writing habit. My aim with this ongoing group is to help learners develop a regular writing practice by making the early stages fun. Week 1: Illustrating our Names (I will provide a personalized printable for you to download.) Week 2: Tracing and Racing (pencil grip, tracing words, and making lines) Week 3: Story-building Together...
Young students will practice writing skills by playing games with teacher and 0-1 additional students.
I am a lucky teacher of a wonderful, big group of lively, funny K-1 kids in a public charter classroom. I'm also a homeschooling mom and teacher who has taught my own kids and groups of others for over 10 years. I'm a trained Early Childhood Educator with Montessori- and Emilia-Reggio classroom experience. As an American Studies major at UC Berkeley, I researched Classical Education theory and practice in the US and I minored in Classical Studies, the history and cultures of Ancient Greece- and Rome. As a former working class kid, I believe that every child should have access to a high-quality liberal arts education. I offer learning opportunities that exceed state standards and spark a deep love of learning. I love my work helping families access a top quality education out of the private schools and into the home.
There is no homework for this class.
Pencil, crayons. For the Week 4 class your learner will need playdough or clay. I will post worksheets for printing so learners can work on them in class.
I am always happy to provide feedback about my observations when asked by a parent or caregiver.
25 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
