Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 7
Titanic is one of the most notorious nautical events in history (nautical means relating to the ocean). During this class, we will talk about the history of the Titanic, the events surrounding it's sinking, the impact it had on history, as well as the impact of the Titanic on pop-culture and society.

For this class, we will meet live, and discuss each of these topics:

Week 1: History of the Titanic and it's sinking
Week 2: Historical Impact of Titanic
Week 3: Pop-culture & social impact of Titanic
Week 4: General discussion and further questions of Titanic events

This class will have discussions in the Outschool classroom, as well as discuss in our live, in-person meetings. There will be some research activities assigned to help the students dive deeper into the historical event, as well as the myths that surround it.

It is my hope that students who take this class leave with a deeper appreciation of the historical event of Titanic, and how much it has affected life in the 100+ years since it took place.

While I am a therapist, teacher, and author for the most part, the Titanic is the historical event I have studied more than any other. I have done years of personal research & collecting related to the true historic Titanic, as well as the pop-culture that has mythologized the event. I have been to several Titanic museums and exhibits to learn more. Based on this knowledge, I am a perfect person to teach this topic with passion.
Learning Goals
I hope students will learn an appreciation for the events surrounding the Titanic, as well as have an understanding of how events like this have an impact on the years that follow. It is also hoped that students will be able to begin to separate the facts of the event from the pop-culture and myths, as well as identify possible gray areas from a lack of details.
