Students are taught how to create an engaging presentation and encouraged to present each week if they wish. Jen presents advanced prompts about insects and evolution to facilitate discussion each week.

Class experience

US Grade 3 - 5
Intermediate - Advanced Level
Students will learn advanced entomology and animal behavior through discussion and photographic/video support.
Jen earned her master of science in evolutionary biology and entomology before embarking on the master project of motherhood! These, combined, led her to start her business Tiny Science, where she teaches science to kids through insects! Jen's background teaching in special ed gives her an advanced set of skills to keep learners engaged and having fun while learning high-quality information.

Assessments come during class, as learners show Jen their page of work. This is a casual science class for building skills and confidence.
Grades Offered
Learners should have something to draw on and something to draw with. Some learners may wish to use a bound journal to keep their work in. 
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
We will be looking closely at various arthropods, mostly insects and nothing gnarly.
Sources of information used in class include work from scientists E. O. Wilson, Charles Darwin, B. F. Skinner, and many regional field guides. Textbooks include For The Love Of Insects (Wilson), Animal Behavior (Alcock), Intro to insect Biology and Diversity (Daly, Doyen, Purcell), the Handicap Principle (Zahavi), The Origin of Species (Darwin).
