Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 5
Intermediate - Advanced Level
College-style entomology classes for kids.
Each week we discuss entomology with emphasis on taxonomy, identification, habitat, ecology, life history, and evolution. Students are welcome to present their own original presentation in the topic of entomology. In lieu of student presentations, Jen relies on ongoing lecture points from her research (evolutionary systems, animal behavior, entomology), academic, and professional experience to promote discussion among the group. All discussion leads are followed. Student expression and discussion manners are emphasized to promote advanced group skills and critical thinking. Because of the ongoing and colloquial nature of these meetings juxtaposed with the nearly infinite topics entomology allows us to study, the weekly topics follow the interest of the students. Jen offers prompts and pursues answers when necessary. Discussion is lively and on topic.

Learning Goals

Students will learn advanced entomology and animal behavior through discussion and photographic/video support.
