Travel back in time to a place without phones, television, and social media. Could there have been a time like this? Yes! Ancient Mesopotamia. We will discuss important vocabulary, influential individuals, timeline, and what life would be like in each tier of the social hierarchy. Students will find the link in the welcome message or receive a link the first day to create a copy of the presentation. The presentation will save in their Google Drive and used through Google Slides. This a great way for students to keep and refer back to the information from this class. I will present a Google Slide presentation for notes. We will review terms with an educational game called Gimkit. Week 1: We will discuss vocabulary and the first civilizations of Mesopotamia are and if there is time we will end the class with a game of Gimkit to review. Week 2: We will discuss important individuals and what was at the center of each city-state and if there is time, we will end the class with a game of Gimkit to review. Week 3: We will discuss what life would be like in each of the social hierarchy and important discoveries we still use today. We will review all material presented with a Gimkit. My goal as a teacher is to make information exciting and explain it in a way that is easy to understand for middle schoolers. I like to get students to share prior knowledge and encourage students to recite information to practice reading and comprehension as well! Students need to be able to understand Google Slides for the class.
Learning Goals
Students will know basic geography, history, and major achievements of Mesopotamia.

Parental Guidance
Students will receive a link in the welcome message to make a copy of the presentation. The student copy of the presentation is guided notes. Guided notes are notes with fill-in the blank spots. Students will need to pay close attention during the Zoom. They will need access to Google Slides. I also use Gimkit to review terms. Gimkit is an educational game website that allows students to play a variety of games as a group and win "money", gain power-ups, and sabotage others to try and be #1! Parent consent will be needed for students to play Gimkit. I have used this site in my classroom and it gets students excited and engaged with their learning! Slides used for the presentation. Images found in Clipart and Google.
