Description

Class Experience

Students will use a process art style of expression while learning about one of history's most famous artist: Frida Kahlo!
I am a social studies teacher and a life long lover of history in all its glory! I have taught this content in the classroom and others like it. I try and remain a neutral party that pushes students to find their own voice as they observe history.
Homework will be to complete their piece if they do not finish in class. If they would like to learn more about the artist, Who Was Frida Kahlo? by Sarah Fabiny and Who HQ is a great next step!
Students will need to come to class with paper and something to either color, draw or paint with.
Progress will be monitored in class with both verbal and nonverbal checks for understanding.
30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
In one of her self portraits, Frida has a necklace of thorns with a few drops of blood coming from it. This will not be a focal point of the lesson, and I will not be calling attention to it, but the piece is on one of the slides.
We will be looking at a few of Frida's original paintings, images of her home in Mexico City as well as images of her famous Oaxacan dresses and skirts.
