Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 3
Hello!
It is "Time to Tell the Time...to the Quarter-Hour Part 1" in this one-time class for 5-10 year olds!
In this class, we will begin with a quick review of telling time to the half-hour on analog and digital clocks. We will connect the concept of "half-past" (half of the hour has passed) to "quarter-before" or "quarter-to" (a quarter of the hour is left before the new hour). We will explore how the clock can be divided into quarters, where the hour and minute hands are on the clock when we talk about quarter-before or quarter-to and how that compares to half-past.
We will then move on to telling time using the language "quarter-before" and "quarter-to" on both analog and digital clocks. We will strengthen our knowledge and flexibility of telling time to the quarter-hour through writing and showing the time to the quarter hour, through the use of flashcards, and games
I believe meeting students where they are at academically is so important and I will be accessing throughout class to determine the next direction that instruction should take.
I also believe it is paramount that learning be engaging, so we will be having fun in class!
Please join me on this journey of telling time! I look forward to seeing you in the classroom!
Learning Goals
Students will leave with the knowledge of being able to tell time to the quarter-hour using the language "quarter-to" and "quarter-before" on an analog and digital clock.

Supply List
Please print off the analog and digital clocks for students to use in class.

It would be very helpful to make the clocks useable with dry erase markers by inserting the clock into a plastic sleeve, laminating it, or putting the clock in a plastic bag.

If unable to do so, please use a pencil so that the time can be erased and a new time can be shown.
 1 file available upon enrollment
